St. John the Apostle Catholic Church. It was built in 1942, not 1842 like other similar churches in the area.
This little bridge was built in 1927 by CPR who owned the K&P railway. The original bridge and tracks were built in 1875.
The foundation for this bridge was built in 1929 by CPR who owned the K&P railway at the time. The deck is new. It replaced the original bridge built 54 years earlier (1875). Try to picture a really old steam engine spewing lots of black smoke and white steam, chugging along here at a top speed of 60 kph.
The original Kingston Grand Trunk Railway (GT) station built in 1855. It was destroyed by a fire many years ago, Canadian National Railway (CN) which owned it since 1923 wants to get rid of it. The City of Kingston and many citizens want it restored as a heritage building. There is an impass.
A small break in the K&P trail, giving public access again.
The Cornerstone arts and crafts. Built for John Macaulay in 1830. Some of the finest artists from across Canada, including Inuit are displayed here. This is the heart of the oldest part of Kingston. Transportation to anywhere else was by schooner. There was a thriving wood, hay and fish market. Atlantic salmon were 25 cents each in season. Dams on the local rivers for saw and grist mills, along with over harvesting ended the salmon runs by 1840.
Monument to the Royal Canadian Air Force and Commonwealth Air Forces in McDonald Park.
The Harbour
It looks peaceful and tranquil, but you can hear the roar of the trucks on the 401 highway and from the freight trains just to the north, for kilometers away on a quiet morning.
