I rented a vehicle last year under the car rental return program from Thrifty in Wellington then returned it in perfect condition two days later to their Auckland airport office. One month later Thrifty posted over $1200 NZD to my credit card without ever informing me. When I found the charges a month later and contacted them, I was told that the car was returned damaged and that I was responsible for the repairs. The photos they took of the damages were dated nearly one month after I returned the vehicle. It appears that I have been charged for someone else's damages and they refuse to remove the charges. I will never use this rental company again as they are unscrupulous liars.

We specifically ordered a child car seat. I confirmed again before our trip that they would have the seat for our two-year-old. We get there, and they have an old seat that is broken. It cannot be installed in the car. They have no clue - had obviously not even looked at it. They then have the audacity to say we should buy a car seat (i.e. take the time and go through the hassle of buying a car seat, costing $300 or so ,for a one-week rental, and we would be returning to the U.S. afterward, so we would have to sell it). I got a full refund, and another car company rented us a car with a very nice and safe car seat. But this last-minute rental was about 250 more, which I expect I would have saved if I had made the booking with another competitive company instead of Thrifty. Also, it meant hours of time and frustration.
