Great for a rainy day activity with lots of things to look at. Very large focus on the Americas cup. The older boats were amazing but our kids couldn't stand the smell as the old wood in an enclosed space was very overpowering. I wouldn't recommend going with younger kids unless they are specifically into boats. Older kids may find the detail interesting.

Best guided tour I've been on. Really passionate staff who really went out on a limb to answer our questions and be part of your experience of the museum. You could go self guided, but the guide is free and brilliant.

A great museum that showcases the history of New Zealand (both Maori and European settlement, as well as the more recent immigrants). It also displays different designs of boats through the generation. On certain days of the week it also runs harbour cruises. Admission is free for Auckland residents.

If nautical nonsense be something you wish, this is a cool place to check out. Gives a brief history of immigrants to NZ and some of the more traditional boats used by natives. The gift shop has some nice souvenirs to check out, albeit expensive.
