I-580 near interchange with I-238. This interchange was widened in the late 1980s to accommodate room for the BART tracks. I-238 was supposed to extend south of this interchange to I-680, but it was never built. There is enough room south of the interchange for another freeway. Taken on 9 Oct 2010
San Ramon Valley 4/8/09
Approaching I-880 southbound from I-238. I-880 (Nimitz freeway) was referred to as the "Nasty Nimitz" since it has some of the most aggressive drivers in the Bay Area. In the early 1990s, this freeway was narrow, bumpy, & had several narrow & messy interchanges before the freeway was remodeled. Taken on 23 Dec 2010

Ramp going to I-880 south. Before, there was no access to southbound I-880 from I-238 before this ramp was opened in 1991. When the ramp was built, parts of the scaffolding for the ramp collapsed, dropping 4 workers 50 feet to the ground, injuring 2. | taken on 23 Dec 2010

Western end of I-238 | This freeway was once used to be 2 lanes in each direction before it was widened in 2006-2009. I-238 is an auxiliary route of I-80, although it was given a random number since all numbers ending in 80 were taken, violating the numbering rules of the Interstate highway system.
