Via trains use this rail way first built in 1858 by the Brockville and Ottawa Railway (B&O). The tax payers of Canada paid as much subsidy as the passengers paid for each ride. Looking north west.
Brockville and Ottawa Railway (B&O) originally from Brockville to Ottawa via Smith Falls as well as north to Almont, Renfrew, Pembroke in 1876 on this line.. The tracks north of Smith Falls are not used. Was part of Canada Central Railway (CCR) for a while.

Via rail tracks from Brockville to Ottawa via Smith Falls. Originally built as the Brockville and Ottawa Railway (B&O) on February 17, 1859, connected to the Grand Trunk Railway (GT) from Montreal to Toronto in Brockville. Originally wide gauge rail, (5' 6"), and changed to standard guage of 4' 8 ' in 1880.
Cataraqui Trail transitions from rural to urban here. Built on the former Canadian Northern Railway (CNoR) railway bed which was built in 1912 to 1914. Last used in 1979 and became a trail in 1997. Trail markers were missing at this time. Facing south.
